Andrew Johnson

Andrew Johnson was born on January 2, 1853 in Sweden in the town of Örebro Län, Sköllersta.  Andrew married Ellen Berg a missionary in First Baptist Church, St Paul, Minnesota on November 7, 1883.  They had 5 children: Paul Andrew, Elna Alfrida, Olga Victoria, Eleanor Christiana, and Hugo Nathanael.  Andrew was converted on January 1, 1877 in Sköllersta, Sweden, and baptized there on November 7, 1877.

Pastor Johnson came to America and attended what is now Bethel Seminary and graduated in 1887.  He was ordained on July 12, 1887 in Big Springs, South Dakota.  He was Pastor at the Big Springs church from 1887 to 1891.  Then Pastor Johnson came to serve the Northwest Baptist Church in Bellingham, Washington in 1891 to 1897.  Then he was called to pastor in Mt. Vernon and Cedarhome from 1897 to1899.  He was pastor at Pearson and Cedarhome, from 1899 to1901.  Pastor Johnson also held some other occupations for several years.  He came back to Cedarhome and was pastor in 1908 and was the first pastor in Cherry Grove Baptist Church from 1912 to 1914.  He served at Delta and Sunrise in Washington from 1916 to 1922.  He was interim pastor at Everett, Washington and Temple Baptist Church in Portland in 1894.  Pastor Johnson died on April 3, 1936.
He was a pioneer preacher-missionary.  While serving at Northwest Baptist in Bellingham he also served the Delta Church and caring for the mission at Ferndale.  The Pastor and congregation on Northwest carried on valiantly in this decade of struggle for all the small pioneer churches.  Pastor Johnson walked the fifteen miles between them in a road-less wilderness. He son Paul, grandson Leroy, and great-grandson Kenneth, are business men in the Seattle, Bellingham areas.

"And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."
Luke 1:17 KJV
