Beverly Loy
The following was written by Pastor Dave Danielson and read at a memorial service held at Temple Baptist Church in Portland, by Jon Christian on January 17, 2005.
Beverly Peterson was born to
Mr. and Mrs. Lenus Peterson in Duluth, Minnesota on April 20, 1923. She
attended grade school in the West End District of the city and progressed on to
the large Denfield High School which served the entire western half of
Duluth. She excelled there as a student and in her senior year was elected
by the student body as their Senior Class Queen.
Her parents were active members in the Temple Baptist Church
and it was there that Beverly accepted Christ into her heart and life, was
baptized, and became a member.
Their pastor, Dr. Linus Johnson, resigned a very successful
pastorate in 1939 to accept a call to the Temple Baptist Church of Portland,
Oregon.
A few years later, after Beverly had graduated from Denfield
High, two families moved from Duluth to Portland, They were the Lenus
Peterson's and George Semingson's. They transferred their memberships to
Temple Baptist here and remained active members for the rest of their
lives. The older folks here today remember them well.
Beverly was employed in an office for two years prior to her
marriage to Mr. Hershel Loy on November 16, 1946. He built his management
career in the General Electric Corporation, Portland GE Supply Division.
The family made only one move in the process when Herschel
accepted a promotion to the Seattle, Washington Division. A few years
later when a retirement opening occurred for the senior position in the Portland
Division, Hersch was offered the position and accepted.
They purchased a lively home on Scenic Drive in the West
Hills that they enjoyed for the rest of their lives.
Bev was active in volunteer work through the years, most of
which revolved around ministries of the Church.
She cared for her husband for over a decade during his
declining health, until his upward call. Little did she think then that
during her own decline leading to her home-going, loving hands and hearts of her
dear ones would be there to surround her also 'till the very end. Hershel
was called home to be with the Lord on May 20, 1980.
Mercifully, the devastating grasp of her illness gave way to
the release of her soul and Bev will never know suffering or pain again.
She passed away on Tuesday afternoon, January 11, 2005.
Bev is survived by three daughters and their immediate
families.
I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7
