Rev. Gustaf Albert Osbrink

        Gustaf was born on January 10, 1964 in Åslättfors, Gästrikland, Sweden.  He was converted at home at the age of 16 in 1880.  He was baptized by E. Sandel in Chicago Second on July 4, 1886.  He attended Bethel and graduated in the class of 1890.  He was ordained in Clinton, Iowa . Was a pastor in Chanute, Kansas from 1897 to 1998.  A missionary in Oregon from 1889 to1901.  Rev. Osbrink then was a pastor at Everett, Washington from 1901 to 1903, Ferndale, Washington 1904 to1906.  Rev. Osbrink then retired in Olympia, Washington in 1910.  He died on Nov 5, 1940.  These facts from the book "Seventy-Five Years"  Bethel Theological Seminary.

   About the year 1897, Rev. Charles Asplund realized the need for help in the effort of evangelizing the population of the Oregon country and from time to time attempted to obtain some help from the Oregon State Convention to support a worker, but these attempts were no successful. 
   Rev. Asplund quotes; "When Mission Secretary, Dr. O.C. Wright, of the State Convention saw our zeal he advised that we form a Swedish Baptist Conference for carrying on work, but this was not an easy thing, for our churches were small and few in number.  However, we called together the little groups to discuss the matter, and the delegates that attended were interested.  Thus it became possible to pledge half of a missionary's salary, and the Convention promised to supply the other half."
   "Delegates were present form: Astoria, Deep Creek, Nehalem Valley, La Center, Washington, and Portland.  We decided to call Rev. G. A. Osbrink, who became the first missionary of the Oregon Conference, and entered upon his duties the first part of 1899.  as soon as he arrived he began arranging open air meetings in the communities here and there where our people lived.  We fixed up meeting places made of spruce boughs and leafy branches and the imagination was called upon to supply what was lacking, seeing in these primitive arrangements tabernacles and cathedrals.  Many people attended these meetings and became blessed."
